AIXTRON SE today announced an order for one Black Magic 1x2-inch wafer carbon nanotube (CNT) deposition system from the Microelectronics and Materials Physics Laboratories at the University of Oulu, Finland.
A local support team of AIXTRON Europe installed and commissioned the system in the clean room at the University of Oulu’s Microelectronics and Materials Physics Laboratories.
The Black Magic system will be used for the low temperature synthesis of aligned carbon nanotubes/nanowires on templates for end-user applications such as integrated CNT devices for electronics, mechanical components in sensors/actuators and scaffolds for catalytic membranes.
A spokesperson from Uni Oulu comments, “With the Black Magic system we can take our new and ongoing research projects to the next level. We selected this system because of its process flexibility and versatility. The system has a well established global customer base and AIXTRON has demonstrated a lot of experience in CVD processing of carbon nanomaterials. We will be using the system not only for development projects but also for the education of doctoral students. This means we have to have a robust, easy to use system that delivers reproducible growth of different types of nanotubes for various applications – the Black Magic system certainly meets these requirements.”
The University of Oulu is one of the largest universities in Finland engaged in multidisciplinary basic research and academic education. The Microelectronics and Materials Physics Laboratories at the University is an internationally recognized centre of innovation with significant activies in the field of micro- and nano-system technologies, with particular focus on materials, devices and their manufacturing technologies. The research is driven by the need to enhance the performance of electronic, photonic and telecommunication devices.
