AIXTRON hosts well-attended MOCVD Seminar on recent technology developments and successfully introduces new AIX R6
China SSL 2014: AIXTRON-Kundenbankett zur offiziellen Vorstellung der neuen AIX R6 MOCVD-Anlage
AIXTRON SE (FSE: AIXA; NASDAQ: AIXG), a worldwide leading provider of deposition equipment to the semiconductor industry, draws positive conclusions from the 2014 China SSL conference, one of the largest and most important events in the solid state lighting (SSL) industry. In Guangzhou, top representatives from industry, research and governmental organizations gathered to discuss the recent developments and future trends in the area of SSL. This year, AIXTRON not only hosted a seminar on recent developments in the MOCVD technology, but also introduced its new production tool AIX R6 to a selected range of customers.
AIXTRON Seminar on MOCVD mass production technology
AIXTRON’s MOCVD seminar focused on mass production technologies. More than 130 participants followed the invitation of the Company and took part in the event. While AIXTRON’s Chief Technology Officer Andreas Toennis discussed “Differentiators in a competitive LED manufacturing environment”, Vice President of Corporate Research and Development Prof. Dr. Michael Heuken presented the “Planetary® MOCVD technology as key enabler of power electronics mass production”.
Tim Wang, General Manager of AIXTRON China Ltd. also welcomed representatives of various high-level customers and key partners who spoke on different aspects regarding the successful application of AIXTRON production technology. “We have been especially pleased about the support from our Chinese market leading customers San’an Optoelectronics and Elec-Tech and their presentations of current production results achieved with AIXTRON technology. Building close partnerships together with our customers is the key for our success”, Tim Wang summarized.
In his speech Dr. Phil Wu, Executive Vice President of Elec-Tech, pointed to the coming trend in epi-wafer production: “The reduction of cost per lumen is the key to be ahead of competition. Therefore 4-inch production becomes the choice and the capacity increase in 2015 will be dominated by 4-inch. In this area AIXTRON’s Close Coupled Showerhead® technology is the leading solution in our opinion.”
“AIXTRON’s G4-TM Planetary® tool has enabled stable mass production of high brightness LEDs. It also delivers good LED properties even when growth rates were increased”, stated Chaoyu Wu, Vice General Manager of San'an Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. who stressed the high quality of the G4 in the production of Aluminum Gallium Indium Phosphide (AlGaInP)-based LEDs.
AIXTRON successfully launches new AIX R6 MOCVD system
After the seminar, AIXTRON held a customer banquet to officially launch its next generation MOCVD system AIX R6. The event assembled high-level representatives from customers and members of AIXTRON’s senior management. Martin Goetzeler, President and CEO of AIXTRON, introduced the new system and stressed its benefits: “The AIX R6 sets new standards in LED manufacturing and thereby, enables the SSL industry to climb the next level of competitiveness: more than 30 percent lower cost of ownership and 120 percent higher throughput offer a significant surplus to our customers.”
AIXTRON receives “Award of Outstanding Achievement for Global SSL Development”
The International Solid State Lighting Alliance (ISA) recognized AIXTRON for its contributions to the establishment of the SSL industry. The Company received the “Award of Outstanding Achievement for Global SSL Development” from the hands of ISA President Wu Ling. CEO Martin Goetzeler underlined in his acceptance speech the role AIXTRON has played in the last three decades: “For 30 years, we have been an important bridge between research, development and the application of technologies by introducing a number of innovative tools to the SSL and General Lighting industry.”
AIXTRON looks towards the near future of the SSL industry
On the last conference day, AIXTRON’s Chief Technology Officer Andreas Toennis closed this year’s China SSL together with representatives of other market leading manufacturers by discussing the mid-term perspectives of the Solid State Lighting industry. All panelists agreed that the industry will face huge challenges in the years to come. AIXTRON’s CTO concluded: “Information technology will emerge as an important driving force in the SSL industry and new applications for the LED technology will be developed. Therefore, close relationships to customers and partners will become even more important. At AIXTRON, we are looking forward to that development and we will continue to actively support it.”
